Maneb resolves Standard 8 candidates’ ID delays
Malawi National Examinations Board (Maneb) says it has resolved technicalities that delayed delivery of identity (IDs) cards for this year’s Primary School Leaving Certificate of Education (PSLCE) examinations.
Maneb public relations manager Angella Kashitigu said in an interview yesterday that the IDs have since been dispatched to examination centres nationwide and that some candidates had already received theirs by yesterday.

While suggesting that all districts, except three, had received their IDs, she reaffirmed Maneb’s resolve to ensure that all candidates get their identification confirmed before the examinations start tomorrow.
Maneb executive director Professor Dorothy Nampota echoed the assurance, saying: “All candidates will have received their IDs by Wednesday. I wish I could say more, but you know we are dealing with national examinations which require strict confidentiality.”
Maneb has, however, kept mum on the identity of the supplier producing the IDs amid questions over whether the choice to have them printed in China suggests a lack of capacity to produce them locally.
The board could also not state if the IDs supplier is also the same one producing cards for Junior Certificate of Education (JCE) and Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) examinations.
The delay to have PSLCE examinations IDs last week raised fears that the situation could compromise the conduct of the examinations, including giving room for third parties to fraudulently write the same through impersonation.
